tribute to pink floyd; the wall

I saw an old man staring at a wall

I asked him, “What are you looking at?”
He asked me, “What do you see?”

I said, “I see a wall.”
He said, “I see my life.

When I was five
I peed on the wall
Because I had to go

When I was nine
I threw a ball at the wall
Knowing it would always bounce back

When I was fourteen
I sprayed paint on the wall
As a symbol of my youth

When I was twenty
I drew a heart on the wall
For the woman that I loved

When I was twenty-five
I climbed over the wall
To explore the other side

When I was forty
I climbed back
Realizing both sides were the same

When I was fifty-three
I made the wall higher
As a symbol of my power

When I was sixty-seven
I leaned against the wall
My legs weary from the journey

Now I just look at the wall
And remember all it has taught me

And when I die
The wall will still be there
And that’s okay with me.”

Then the old man asked me once more,
“What do you see?”

And I said,
“I see a wall.”
